I saw an article in a new issue of Engine Masters Magazine. They used a Vortec Block with OEM Crank, rods and pistons and just changed the rings, slapped on some new heads, new cam, valve springs, intake, etc. The dyno showed 447hp. So the question I have, since I have one of these engines sitting in my 77 Camaro is, How much power can the OEM crank actually handle? Would this much power end up breaking OEM rods after a couple of passes?

2 factors to consider HP and Rpm's factory cranks can usually go to 6500RPM and around 450HP or so the stock rods is the limiting factor if you have arp rod bolts installed in the stock rods they will usually be good to a maximum 6500RPM if using the factory rod bolt then it is not safe to turn it higher then 5500RPM.

Cast cranks are a crap shoot IMO for high HP aplications my buddy just went 9.67 in the 1/4 with his 2500 lbs car with a cast crank but it was his back up motor and he short shifted at 5500 to save some stress
