I already posted this on Car Craft.

I've been keeping a journal on Google Docs that catalogs some of my engines ideas and things that I want to test on the dyno.  I just learned that I could publish it as a webpage.

It's at http://docs.google.com/View?id=dggnckr6_10f2jfw4gc if you want to take a look.

Hey I need some Help. I have a 1984 Buick regal that currently have a 3.8 V6 in it. I recently bought a Pontiac 400 small block to put in. So what I really need help with is trying to build this 400. I would like to make somewhere around 575hp at the wheels.

OK, I'm going to assume that emissions inspection isn't a problem in your area (1979 was the 400's last year, if I remember correctly).  Look into a good rear axle (8.5" 10 bolt Grand National, Ford 9", etc) good brake system, good fuel system (Grand National internet websites will be your friend here, tho there are Monte SS fans that can help, too) and a good trans.  After you spend the few thousand on all this, also swap to a new radiator (the old one is full of crap from the old engine).

Now for that Pontiac...do you want to run an Edelbrock package with nitrous?  Stroke it out to 440cid or 500 cid?  Maybe a kit from Bruce Fulper, Nunzi, Butler, or one of the other Pontiac experts out there?  Do you want to try to get some 6X heads, Chevy BB conecting rods, lifter valley girdles, some massive McKeller style cam and try to go the Ram Air V (5) route?  Are you willing to build a mild engine for daily driving, and let a power adder and a swap to race fuel get you to near 600?
