389 into an 86 firebird

i'm trading a 68 falcon in desperate need of quarters and and a trunk floor for a 1986 firebird with a rebuilt 305. i would really much rather keep the falcon, but the pontiac needs a lot less work and i just got diagnosed with cancer for the second time at 24 years old.

my father has a 66 or 68 running pontiac 389 laying around that was given to him that he's offered me. i've been doing a lot of research online and in stacks of magazines and i've answered a lot of my questions already. cheif many horses offered bolt in engine mounts, but i just found out they went out of buisness last year. are there any other bolt in options for this? all i found were mounts that only went up to '81. other than that, i need to know about exhaust. manifolds or headers, i just want something that'll fit without a TON of work.

any info on this swap would be much appreciated, this is going to be my first MAJOR surgery on my own. thanks in advance,

             Justin.

p.s. sorry i rambled on there for a while

that sucks about the cancer, good luck with that.

Do you have the Th200R4 transmission?  That, I believe, should have a B-O-P bolt pattern, while a 700R4 won't.  Those year F-body cars didn't flow a whole lotta air into the radiator, you may need a little help of electric fans etc.

Hood clearance MAY be an issue, but I guess you won't be swapping on an intake, right? Off the top of my head, either '66 or '67 is when they changed the intake bolt pattern on the heads, so if you do change intakes, find out if the engine is a 66 or a 68.

81 was the last year for the F-body generation that offered the 400, hence the motor mounts you mentioned.  xhaust may have to be custom, due to the lack of room under the floorpans--dual exhaust is only availible in Y form.
