GM tries to pitch Camaro to gay men

OK, I get edgy marketing and the desire to attract new audiences.  I get that we're in a recession and sales are hard to come by.  I also get that GM's in the middle of a bankruptcy so they're going to take a few risks... So I guess if you're running their marketing team the obvious thing to do is rebrand your new muscle car for gay guys.  WTF?!!?

No disrespect to any gay guys out there... I own a 1968 and a 1973, so I like the cars, but the Camaro name already has a sketchy reputation among most people.  Now I know what everyone will say when I cruise down the street... "Hey, there goes that gay stoner with the mullet".  Gee thanks Chevrolet did you really have to go there???.  

That link isn't working, but if it's true, I find it hilarious. I also think it's just as hilarious that you'd feel threatened by that.

Beyond that, I think it would be a colossal marketing mistake, if for no other reason than it's a gross waste of taxpayer dollars.

(Note to self: Gonna have to tune into the Bravo network or crack open a copy of GQ to see if they're running any ads...)

Ok, found it. Here's an excerpt from the MSN news item:

"The models lean seductively over the hood of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, wearing only tiny yellow underwear emblazoned with the car's logo. Grasping a wash cloth, they rub down the car until it sparkles as an unseen cameraman asks about the car.

The videos, broadcast on YouTube, use sex appeal to sell Camaros to guys. Only the models aren't women, they're men.

The racy commercials are part of a new advertising campaign targeting gay, bisexual and transgender Americans."

Also found the video links on Youtube, but the videos have been removed by the people who put them on. Also found innumerable videos around the country where Chevy has brought the new Camaro to gay events and festivals for them to try. The new Camaro seems to be very well received in the gay community, so maybe my earlier remark was wrong.  

Hey, I'm all about equal rights. Now I wanna see the Lesbian version of this commercial....

i seriously doubt that anyone would think a stoner with a mullet was gay...out of style by 20 years, but not gay...stick with the tye dye and flannel, you'll be just fine

My first car was a 1977 Camaro straight six.   But don't worry...I hate flannel, I wouldn't be caught dead in a mullet, and neither my girlfriend nor myself are stoners.

I really, truly hate to break it to you, since that comment is prolly the result of a lot of hard thinking, but lesbians don't "pack fudge" , as you so quaintly put it.

I was given the inline 6 Camaro by my folks for my first car, btw.  Sadly, it was taken out by a tree during a severe storm.
