i am looking for any and all tech info i can get on 1978-1981 camaros, but more so on the 79 year. i seem to have an oddity here. the original owner of my car swears that the 454 that is in the car is orig. but the id tag says 350 by the numbers. The engine looks factory installed with the bolt locks and a/c unit all ran factory style. I have owned several f-bodies(more than 10) and i can not find where gm offered a 454 for that year. Is there something i don't know here? any ideas?

Wth the E.P.A of the "70's" I can not imagine or heard of any big block cars in the late 70's. Not as far as a chevy 454 anyway. If the tag says 350, I would say that is what it was stock. Try to refrence it with a local smog shop and see if the have anything on the books.

1972 was the last year a big block ,396, would be installed by the factory in a camaro.. go to camaro at wikepedia and you can read up on all the generations. hope this helps..by the way if its working ,keep it. 454' s are getting hard to find and those that have them don't want to pass them on, myself included.
