Dear PHR, I am finishing my shop (36x46) and am gathering information for starting my 79 camaro project . So far I have the following HP books :2nd and 4th holley books , How to hot rod big block chevy's ,welders handbook, metal fabricators handbook ,big block chevyperformance and big block chevy engine build-ups .I have a 454 (i am thinking 496) A-833 trans and a 9 inch ford rear end . I am thinking cage and small tubs . Are there any books you would recommend ? Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated .
Thank You

you could also read a book about handling, a great book on suspension. cant build a car if your car wobbles around corners.

I bought and just finished reading , The race car chassis , How to build a winning drag race chassis and suspension and How to build and modify high performance manual transmissions . All three books were excellent . The authors names were Forbes Aird , Wayne Scraba and Paul Cangialosi . All three write in a style that is easy to understand . Excellent suggestion .Thank you.

Before you blow another dime on this car...decide what the heck you want from it. don't waste your cash on making it cool--what the heck do YOU want?
If you want a straight line, focus on that. You want it to move in curves? Ditch the heavy big block, get an LS1. Toss the Mopar trans--by the time you get it to match up, you could have gotten an overdrive or Richmond 5 speed, it'd be stronger than even a Hemi 4-speed built in the last century.
But get a plan, or you'll be chasing after fads, and blowing your budget 5 times as you keep changing your mind. There are businesses that were built on making the F body handle, pick which one you like and just buy their package. Focus on a transmission you prefer, then cage, set up the fuel system and the cooling and brakes. After all that, spend what cash you have left, on an engine. a stroker 385 cid crate engine will do plenty.
