Looking for some advice on building a pontiac 400 or stroker from this 400.It is for a 93 firebird which weighs 2300lbs without motor/tranny. The ggears are 323 in rear end.Budget is a real issue.

Well I dont think Ill be spending money right now on anything but motor.I also have the stock 6X heads which have 2.14/1.77 valves if I can remember correctly but the combustion chamber was rather large. i would like to give them a try first and save that much for starters. I have a set of .30 over TRW flat top hypereutectic pistons. my budget is very small, but, this motor will be built(I have time). I'm a race track kind of guy, but I would occasionally drive this thing around. My goal(eventually)is 11 seconds.

Two of my friends that can supply about everything you'd need, at a really good price:
Ken "Ace" Brewer, of Pacific Performance Racing http://www.pacificperformanceracing.com/
and
Kevin Swaney of Tin Indian Performance www.tinindianperformance.com
BTW, your 6X heads will (if stock) have 2.11" intake valves and 1.66" exhaust. 1.77's CAN be installed.
Lots of unported 6X headed Pontiacs have ran in the 12's. 11's are possible, but you'll probably need a Pontiac-experienced porter to get into the 11's.

I would look for a set of # 13,48 or 62 heads they will boost your compression ratio up and have 2.11/1.77 valves proper cam like a lunati streetmaster .507 lift and 750cfm holley, headers, dubble roller timing set set straight up and and rebuild kit with flat top pistons and moly rings ,1.5 roller rockers and a good dist. and plug wires should be close. Also I would not stroke the 400 I would use the stock 3.75 stroke and at least put arp rod bolts in the stock rods or buy forged rods. May even want to put a 3.73 gears in the rear.

just curious.... will a pontiac motor fit between the strut towers of a 93 firebird....
those came with small block chevys... along with 4's and V6's...
if you really intend on installing a pontiac motor in that 4 gen F body.. there is a sister mag that covers a lot of pontiac stuff..
http://www.highperformancepontiac.com/index.html
just a thought.... they will fit and did come earlier models... up to the 81 model firebirds..
i may be totally wrong..
