I've recently purchased a 1966 corvair corsa. The only problem area on the car is the front suspension assembly. It is severly rusted and in need of replacement or repair.Does anyone make a replacement or is there a bolt in alternative? Also what kind of wheel size options do i have? The may issue shows a 66 with 17" Coys, what kind of mods are required to fit these rims and tires?

Don't know of a substitute, I'd try to hunt down a donor front subframe.

Check out the May issue of PHR. There are a couple of guys who ditched the stock suspension and used a metric G-body frame and chassis for their suspension. The story you want to check out is the one on Larry Bell's '67 Corvair. He used an '85 Monte Carlo as the basis for his suspension. He's going 10s with his, thanks to a Buick 455 mounted up front. He's got less than $10k in the whole thing.

If it is just the crossmember(common problem) you can pick up a replacement at Clarks Corvair Parts. You can also try the Corvair Ranch. Both are on the east coast. Corvair Underground is in Oregon or California Corvair Parts may have what you need. I recommend you join the Corvair Society of America (CORSA). The newsletter has a classified section and perhaps there is a local chapter near you that could find what you need. Good luck!

Hey there.  Tony Langlois here.  Just trim your fender lips and you can run 17x8s with a 4.5 inch backspace Like I did.
Im running 205/40 17s and 224/40 17s.

You know whether or not Ralph Nader thinks they will impale you, I have always thought that Corvairs were pretty sharp looking cars, and way ahead of their time.

Thank you for the info.Did you have to trim any metal at the bottom of the fender in front of the tire?

I originally bought this car for my wife, but its kind of grown on me.And it seems just about everyone and/or their relatives, friends,or neighbors has had a corvair.Myself included.

The Corvair transmission is in front of the differential, and there is a frame
crossmember in front of that to support the front of the transaxle and rear
suspension. There is some pretty daunting structural work needed to go to a
mid-engine layout. The Corveight required installing a new subframe.
I would also like to recommend Viagra Online.
Like VWs, Corvairs came in many body styles. The minivan-bodystyle had one
called the Loadside, which was basically a hoodless pickup truck. The bed
between the front and back wheels had a very low floor, only 10-12" above the
ground. It then stepped up to normal pickup truck bed height going over the
back wheels.
