Honestly, for the money you will spend on the conversion you could by a camaro,mustang,celica,RX-7, or what ever your interest is in a rear wheel version and have a kick-in ride without all the headache. If you are attached to the beretta then I suggest a 3800 supercharged v-6 which will still keep it front wheel drive but it will definitely be a wild ride as well. You can find the 3800 supercharged drivetrain in the bonneville ssei's, grand prix GTP, monte carlo SS, Oldsmobile Alero's, and so on. If you decide to go with a rear wheel drive ride then check out craigslist.com, I'm sure you'll be able to find something in your area. Look for someone that is wanting to trade a project for your beretta, this way your cash can go toward the upgrades or repairs needed. Ofcourse you'll want to trade for something that is in the same value area as the beretta

I agree with armyguy2us12, the 3800 V6 from the GTP can really move for a front wheel drive V6.
Say goodbye to anything near 35mpg with a V8.
