Well, to be honest I mostly stood around and helped every once in a while. It was pretty awesome though, I don't usually get to be on the mechanical side of the business, but i'm always excited when I do get the chance. now if only it was my own car...

Nothing like the real deal to help your perspective on things. It's good stuff - lots of fun. I dreaded the first time I had to change the clutch in the Falcon (originally a 3 speed / 289 car) - didn't have a clue. But since I drove it pretty hard my experienced mechanic friend said "you gonna break it, you better learn how to fix it". I've fixed a lot in the last 30 years

Yeah thats definetly a step up in garages. At least you have a garage, all I have is a crummy parking space at my crummy apartment

And probably a landlord that yells "no working on cars here!". I consider myself very fortunate to have a place to work on the cars. Spent my share of time changing clutches in the driveway, installing shift kits with one set of tires up on the curb, etc. "Best" repair was one Sunday morning after a really late party, had to take a friend to work early. It was about 35F and I just grabbed some shorts and a T-shirt. On the way back, the shifter fell off the three speed. I got one wheel up on a high spot on the side of the road and managed to get one bolt (found it laying in the road) back in enough to limp home. By the time I got home, my hangover was all gone.
