What Engine Should We Build Next?

I am personally intrigued by the 230, 250, 292's having owned a 250 in a 1970 Nova. With a bone stock six and a two speed powerglide tranny with very little tweaking I could keep up with a 79 Camaro. And when that little effer hit 60 mph and I shifted into drive she was a handful to keep straight. One of these engines all done up maybe with a turbo, a bunch of cam, some head work, and four barrel or fuel injection would be awesome. There are thousands of these engines laying around. They make decent amounts of torque, especially the 292's. Just a suggestion since there are so many after market parts for six's.

What about building both types of six's one v-6 one straight 6 and see which one will produce the most HP and Torque for the least cost. Outline the pro's and con's of the two and the fuel economy gains and losses. With gas prices jumping up like they are these days I see a bigger future for the six cylinder engines. Also use them in the camaro's and mustangs agianst the same car but V-8 horse powered to show the difference in weight verses handling. Just an idea, must not be monday yet.

I will agree the small block has been done to death, however if you do another SB get off the 350 and 383, do something crazy! how about a SB 327,307,305,302 or 283 that has bolt on stuff on a budget, that anyone can duplicate for say the daily driver, OLD school VS new school HP vs Mpg ect. compare it to gm current production line ect... Put it in something current i.e. a current daily driver to compare with what GMs doing vs after market on a shoestring budget.. Have you not proved you can make HP by buying a cam, intake, carb kit ect? we all get it. Dyno test it and compare it in a current production ride. (NOT THE ENGINE BUT THE WHOLE VEHICLE) or maybe a fuel efficient BB with some kick.. ect... Water Injection on carb revisited, or low end NOS HP for passing gear ? ect.. get it?

Oh the two other guys with the 6 banger shoot out is a great idea... It all about fuel economy.. Straight vs V6 vs maybe a real small V8 the most bang for your buck... Jack em up in Hp and put in an OD transmission then do the shoot out HP vs TRQ vs MPG.. now that cool.....

How about something very different like a 368 Lincoln, it's always the same engines you do.
It doesn't make any sense anymore to build a Chevy Ford or Mopar, you can buy them 500+ hp for almost nothing.

Why Not a BBF Stroker? Junck yard 460 block, 532 ci. kit doesn't need any machining, balance job only $2500, set of D3 heads cheap with big valves, or C8-C9 heads with big valve $700 ,a gear head port job opened to SCJ size, the biggest hyd-flat cam you can find, or a solid roller w/ cheap roller rocker $600, Vic. intake port matched $300, 1050 dominator $650, and you get 600-700 hp and stay around $5000.00?

I've been investigating E85 for years now and there still is not enough info out there for folks to learn from. Seems that nobody has the answer on what needs replaced on our old cars to keep them safe with this fuel in the long-run.
And I would also love to see a smallblock Olds build ! I have a good friend with a 380ci sbo that has ported factory iron heads (#6 sbo) and it makes aprx 600hp & 500ft lbs (dyno results). Some of the gas &/or the diesel blocks will bore to 4.185 even ( how about a 396ci sbo with a factory block, bigblock heads, and an sbo steel crank offset ground to a stroke of 3.60" ??)Some of the smallblocks really put the "smackdown" on the 455's, even a budget-built 350 (remember the W31's ?). Lots of late '70's TransAms still have their Olds engines, and plenty of jet boats do too !!
The Olds diesel blocks have been proven to hold at least 1,700hp , go there for a change !?
'64 Cutlass with; a straight axle,a blown 350dx diesel block (polished 8-71), Torq-Thrust wheels, and big rear meats with radiused wheelwells.(East Coast Gasser style)
Go to : Realoldspower.com for the best Olds ideas & people !!!!

I had completly forgotten about Olds and Caddy diesels. I don't know where a guy could find a good core this late in the game, but one of those would be kind of cool. The 305 Chevy/Olds and what ever else they ended up with, would be cool as well. I've two of 'em right now and I like them. Of course there's no arguing with cubic-inches, a 350 is the low-buck king when it comes to horsepower. Anyways, that my two-cents.
No wait, how about a Y-Block Ford? 322 Buick? 413 Chrysler? This could list could go forever... 4-cylinder Tempest, that's it I'm gone.

Personally, I would either like to see a tried and true turbo assembly or a comprehensible automatic transmission rebuild/upgrade. maybe a 2007 impala SS with a pro-charger... that would be interesting.
i'd rather spend a thousand dollars in tools than wasting a thousand hours of mantime.

How about a Magnum V-10 modified to accept a Viper top-end? Iron block has an extra 0.25" of deck height compared to the Viper's. Got STROKE!

That would be cool! I would like to see a stroker with some of the latest hemi heads from Jon Kaase. I think you would be amazed at what it can do.
