The article in the sept. issue has prompted be to sound off.First the corrections. 1968 SS chevelle production #,what source was used for the more than 60,000 made ? According to Chevelle and el camino ID model codes 55,309 hardtops and 2,286 converts were made.1968 was also the year of the fewest SS models made for chevellesand the last to be a separate SS model .And I am sorry ,the term plain-jane number's matching SS ,when is a BB car a plain jane. What do you mean by fairly beat down 26,000 mile example ? That it is not pristine or freshen up with a rattle can or chromed out to the hilt? The car has been driven and the key words is ALL ORIGINAL and UNTOUCHED .How many like that do you think are still around? Never been restored ? Never hacked on ?How many chevelles have been destroyed in just the last 5 years , 10 years ? Supply and demand rules apply to anything with a finite numbers of items. You have a problem with his price? Maybe its a little high but there is always a premium on an unmolested car, they are original ONLY ONCE and do you think a car restored with all aftermarket parts is worth as much as a car restored with original gm parts ? Think again. And before you complain about the price of cars again think about what one of the key factors for driving the price of original cars up is ? Give up? Every original car cut up to make a pro street, pro turning ,pro what ever the flavor of the month is means fewer cars for the guys that wants a stock original car which means they have to compete and pay more to have one. But then the whole article is aimed toward your base readers and advertisers anyway , stock bad ,hotrodded good means more money in your and their pockets, I get it . So why do you not do the hobby some good and SAVE some cars don't let them go to the crusher because they are rusty , FIX them save them so there are more for us to have, pro street a rusty car and put one more one the road ,don't cut up another original its lasted this long original and some day there will be no more , have some soul and let the ones that enjoy an original car have it and preserve it. I know I will get a ton of hate mail for this but I felt the need to stand up for the purist. And if you think purist do not flog their cars than go to the super car reunion and watch original yenkos, ZL1, deuces go down the track.

Well to be fair, 60 thousand is still alot for a stock Chevelle. I also don't believe Hunkins meant to say that all original cars shouldn't be saved or anything like that, i think he was saying that the deal was *** because the car obviously wasn't worth 60k. Just my 2 cents.
