Not sure if I am writing this on the right message board or not. I came across a guy selling a 1961 buick lesabre, 2 door hard top with a rebuilt 364 engine. He has alot of extra parts from another 61 buick. There is alot of rust and you can see the ground through the floor board....He's asking $1200 for the car....anybody think it is worth it?

It's not so much is the car worth 1200 smackers as is it worth it to you. what are your plans (RESTO OR ROD)? if its too much to restore but can be made as a low buck rod , well then go for it. if you get enough parts with it to do the floor and other things to bring it up to par go for that. sheetmetal is a wonderful thing , but it's all up to you. if you don't have to hunt rare parts and have all that you need to complete it as you want it i say talk the person down a couple hundred and go for it,damn the torpedoes. it took me 8 yrs to get the car i have now and they still ask "why" i wanted it? if someone has to ask "why" they just don't get it. it all rest in "is it gonna be fun or frustration"? last but not least don't be a sheep, dare to be different don't just throw a chevy motor in it,if you have to change out drivetrans use a caddy, pontiac, newer style olds or buick. Rust is a big deal, not easy to deal with. But if you want it i say go for it.

Honestly, if you don't know if its a good deal or not...its not for you. It will require a whole lotta body work--rust is like an iceberg, what you see ain't what you find after you strip off the paint and start looking under the surface.
And if its a structural piece? You better know how to brace, before you cut out the old stuff and weld in new. and do you know where to find new pieces for a Buick?
Its not the purchase price that's expensive--its the rebuild cost. either you buy a solid car for a lot, or you restore a cheap rustbucket for even more. Do you have the tools for all this? That's part of the cost of restoring this car. Will you ever use those tools again? Do you have a rent-free place to put this car, and not move it until the welding is done?
