I have a 95 F250 with a 460. It comes stock with "switch" type oil sending unit. I would like to install another gage and sending unit that will give me lbs. reading. Because stock location is so hard to get at, will I get an accurate readind if I install the new sending unit at the oil filter by removing a plug from oil filter mount?

I'd say you'd be fine. That's the preferred method to  use a mechanical guage on a LS1.
