460 FORD 1979 have tried everything its got DOVE heads edelbrock intake and cam
have checked timing changed thermostat 4 flue radiator, checked head gaskets and heads it idles cool but gets hot on the road fan is pulling plenty of air its in a 4x4 could to much gear be doing it

This might sound strange but do you have a fan shroud and how deep does the fan sit inside the shroud? You can step up a funny airflow if the fan is in the shroud either too deep or if the fan is really close to the radiator. During a cruise driving, the air can actually get pushed forward causing the air to stagnate in the radiator making the cooling effectively nothing.
The fan depth should be approximatly half the depth of the blade in shroud, and sealing the fan shroud and the radiator to the core support will make the fan much more efficent. Hope this helps a bit.
