Gents, really enjoy the mag (mostly), and the EMC is an incredible concept; however, it is getting a bit long in tooth - small block, big block, small, big, both, now what? What would interest me most is the new fuel injected motors- there has to be a way to get em to run and quickly change engines on the dyno. Maybe publish the specs for the dyno carts used to transport engines to and from the dyno. Have each team bring one with all their electronics attached. These competitors are putting serious effort into their motors, so building a cart shouldn't be that much of a strech. I would really like to see new vs old in EMC. Or if it's TOTALLY impossible then allow production heads with non stock valve angles, as long as the headers are off the shelf and will fit a production car. How much better are the SB2 type heads than stock? I'm betting alot. THanks !

I understand you take a lot of pride in your photography, but sometimes you get too fancy and I can't get a real ggod idea of how a car really looks. Sure it looks good at sunset, with the lights on, windows up, sun from behind, from a fifteen foot ladder, etc. It's just that sometimes in your quest to be artsy, I can't tell how a car really looks. Are you a car magazine or a bunch of photography geeks? Don't get me wrong, the pictures are good, it's just that sometimes you can't see the forest through all the trees.

hey heres an idea, give more info in your tech articles, and maybe you could find people who work at that rag to actually do the work on the projects, instead of going to a speed shop and having them do the work.get real with youselves

The fact you've posted this thread and are asking us regular gearheads instead of a marketing specialist is pretty impressive in itself. Maybe you add some "cheap" car features like the Fox bodies , 3rd and early 4th gen F-bodies for tech mules.... They're relatively simple in terms of learning EFI for swaps , etc. and can make decent power with bolt ons.

The April '07 Project Cars articles really broke through for me. Reading them kicked off a whole sequence of new ideas for my long-languishing project and I now have the confidence I could accomplish them myself.
Pick a single subject, describe the technical or stylistic background and desired effect, then show specific steps, materials, costs and "after" pictures. The formula works great!

Popular HotRodding has been my favorite magazine since about 1974. It got kinda thin there for a while in the 90s, but I've really been impressed with where it seems to be heading these days...it's good to see you guys coming back to put out good stuff every month once again!
The only suggestion that I would make would be to include some older hot rods in the magazine, the way you always did way back when. Flip through some old issues from the 70s and you'll see 32 Fords, Anglias, Willys drag cars, 50s iron and other older hot rods mixed in along with the Dusters, Camaros, Mustangs and other street machines. It was a nice balance, and it covered a wider spectrum of HOT RODDING than what generally gets the ink today. Sure, there are 'specialty magazines' that cater specifically to early rods, but why not give 'em some space between the covers of a magazine that hails from a long standing tradition of coverage related to all things POPULAR in HOT RODDING?!? I think it would make for a more well-rounded magazine, and would help to expand your audience some.
Just a thought. You're doing great, but anything can always be improved a little...that's what hot rodders ***

Be a bit more complete in your information and try to be a little more in depth. some of the articles come off as more an attempt to sell parts - the recent E-85 article for example. Great coverage - completely left out the part about how much "E-85" can change through the year.

I got no complaints except agreeing with nacnac on the "artsy" photography. I just don't dig the filtered or distorted pics much. I know you're sick of the "standard" poses but try a regular old profile if you can't bear another front three quarter shot.

Johnny: I like the alternative stuff. I am primarily a Ford guy but I will cheer on the Buick, Olds, Pontiac, and Cadillac guys and gals when I see their fine machines in your mag. Variety is the best. I personally have 2 460 Fox Thunderbirds and I love them. They don't have perfect shiny paint, but homemade stuff is the most fun! Oh yes, my wife and I bracket race them all the time. Alan

I think less push on the ls series general mess engine and clearly no more chevy into a Ford projects. That was as stupid as it gets. A real story would have been putting a 521 BBF into your new Mustang. How about showing the engines built in the magazine actuly in the car and on the track? Anyone can turn a screw on a dyno to get a higher appearing hp and tq number.

I know what you can do...give away an engine like the 460 Jon Kaase monster with that big 700 plus cam and big heads and put it in a car like my 87 Turbo Coupe.
I will gladly pull out the old 460 I have in it right now!

I do like the aspect of cheap speed as few others really are covering it. But what I would also like is a bit of a look at other platforms than GM/Ford/Chrysler. For instance a nice period rod design can be made out of Volvos from the '60s. Have you ever looked at the lines of a 122S or a PV544? Here we are talking about rear wheel drive cars with character with a period hotrod look and are still available cheaply and in good shape.

What ever happened to econo perforer(70 monte). Also why can't someone start a automotive cable channel dedicated to the art of hotrodding. This could include car projects ,dragracing, etc.there are plenty of speed parts manufactures out there and dealers to sponsor such a deal which would benefit them!Or programs on pay-per-view.It sucks that I have to tape shows on deferent channels at strange times only to get a half hour show!By the way the SpeedChannel SUCKS big time!!!
