Well, I would sure like to see the publishing timeline kept up to date. We were fortunate enough to be selected in the JEMC at the beginning of the year and my family has been bugging me weekly as to when you are actually going to print anything about this years Challenge that is set to conclude in six weeks.
I guess the only other thing would be that apparently you need to push the PHR website and forum some more to get more traffic here.

We have had Engine Masters stories in every issue since the February issue, when we ran coverage of the 2005 event. The timeline is not a function of the editorial department, however, I do believe we published deadlines for the 2006 Challenge back in February. Does that sound right?

I definitely like the EMC stories that have been appearing monthly. What I am saying is...my family is anxious to read about this year's contestants.

More Buick, Olds, Pontiac, Mopar and big block Ford engine coverage. And please, no more stupid GM crate engine promotions!!! Any idiot with money can buy one of those. You guys could even throw in a couple AMC engine projects here and there too. Need new ideas? How about a 700 hp 350 Olds or Pontiac story? (there is some 350 Olds and Pontiac engines making in that neighborhood of hp out there). Anyone who can't build an overated chevy by now blindfolded shouldn't build anything at all. And how about a corner carving older Ford pick up article? (It isn't like that twin I-beam suspension is easy to work with!! Or even more interesting would be a Dodge truck from years ago. Just throwing ideas out for you to consider as another chevy engine or ls1 story is puke material. I would even like to see a radically built new style small Mopar hemi. Or how to put a 4v 5.4 mod motor in your lame 4.6's place in say, a Tbird instead of mustang type storys. Or how to fix the crown vic's power problem with the Lighting truck engine, you know the way Ford should have built the Merc Marauder a few years ago.

I know a couple of guys that put 5.4s in their T-Birds. One even attached a Powerdyne blower to his. They are working up new intakes for the 5.4.
Me, I'm working on a build up of a 3.8 to a cammed 4.2 using a Mustang intake and E85 for fuel. I've already J-Modded the tranny, put in Bilsteins and stiffer springs in the front. I've got other mods on and in mind.
Maybe I'll be out with the guys at Hangoverfest at Cordova, IL on New Year's day. Maybe PHP will come and "run what you brung", too.

Not much, imo. The articles and layout are great. I love that fact that you don't do that crap where half the article is up front and the other is buried in the back.
Crate motor buildups are popular because crate motors and crate short blocks are popular, and increasingly affordable.
It seems that a lot of people are asking PHR to do the Car Craft thing, where "we go to a junkyard and work miracles for $50" in almost every issue. I personally don't enjoy articles on how to align your front end at home with a broomstick, recycling a used camshaft, or converting your '81 Camaro to front-wheel drive just because you found the parts for it.
There's a military axiom that says, "He who defends everything defends nothing." The relevance here is that you can't be all things to all people--especially in a car mag.
I think PHR has a good sense of itself, and is doing a good job of distinguishing itself from other mags.
I can understand the wisdom of wanting to make sure you are meeting your reader's needs. But this almost goes without saying, as it's a function of the type of readers you attract. For example, if you publish a mag that try to become the premier tech mag for Harley hotrodders, you will end up with the elite Harley hotrodders reading your mag, and the readers who want a certain depth will be very loyal. But if I take this same "Harley hotrodder" mag and try to change it to be "bike performance" mag, now you've just alienated the very group you built your readership upon and watered down the magazine in the name of "expanding readership."
So please don't succumb to the temptation to expand the readership too quickly by redefining PHR on the fly to suit whatever demographic-du-jour upper management decides they wish to target.
Instead, there needs to be an unshakable faith that "if you build it, they will come."
Readers follow great mags. There are just too many different people to try to please everyone. Not that you shouldn't try to please the readership or incorporate what people want to see. It just all has to be done within the confines of the PHR identity.

more B.O.P. stories please. especially olds motors. please though make them indepth stories about high end top h.p. engines. please dont limit them to over the counter parts but allow sheet metal intakes, custom cams whatever. also LESS small block chevy motors and no more crate motor stories either. they are boreing and come across as 3 or 4 page ads for the o.e.m. oh and please for the love of god cut back on the real street junk. i dont know which direction to go i admit but im tired of same old same old. besides that good job!

Never putting type on color pages hard to read for anyone over the age of 30. Make sure they contrast each other not blend. Keep the text easy to see.

Actually, I'd like to see Engine Masters Magazine become a subscription mag.
Everything else is great! I look forward to reading PHR every month. Keep up the good work!

I agree, WAY too many Camaros and second gen Novas. I'd really like to see WAY less chevys and more other brands. How about an A-body Mopar project, a ford falcon/mercury comet (pro touring or maybe an A/FX clone), 63-65 Buick Riviera (love them torquey nailheads.)How about a Rambler with a built up Jeep H.O. 4.0l stroker? Heck Even a Mustang (probably the MOST "popular" car to modify) should be in your project pool.
I mean that Windsor Stroker Article was great, but kissing up to the Chevy Small Block vendors really annoyed me. And how is putting an LS1 into a '90 Mustang not Anti-Ford "Propaganda?"
So Final Thought? WAY less chevy, more everything NOT chevy
